Relieving hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are among the most-hated pregnancy symptoms and for this reason we know everyone is looking for any means to get rid of them when they attack. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to get some much needed hemorrhoid relief.

If you have hemorrhoids, be picky about what toilet paper you use.

  • Apply an ice pack or cold press to the affected area several times a day.
  • Soak your bottom in warm water for 10-15 minutes several times a day. You can do this in a bathtub or a sitz tub, which should be available at your local pharmacy.
  • Alternate treatments. Don’t rely on your ice pack or warm bath, rather alternate these methods to speed up the healing process.
  • Rub petroleum jelly on the affected area.
  • Use soft, unscented, white toilet paper, moist wipes or medicated hemorrhoid pads after going to the bathroom. Avoid scented and coloured toilet paper as they will only act as irritants.
  • Don’t strain. We’re talking about lifting up heavy objects and when you’re in the bathroom.
  • Talk to your doctor about a safe over the counter treatment, especially if nothing else is working.
