Is it just us or do baby names seem to be getting a little bit more original than they have ever been before?
There is:
- the classic mixing of two names. For example, Twilight’s Renesme and Jordan and Peter Andre’s Tiaami,
- the food names, like Apple Martin and Peaches Geldof. Contrary to popular belief, these are quite popular throughout the English speaking world and include other names, such as Lemon and Parsley,
- the name “Blue”. Jay-Z and Beyonce were not the first to name their baby after this colour, it is actually a very popular girl’s name right now,
- the alcohol names which include: Hennessy, Chardonnay and Tequila,
- and the number names. “Seven” ring a bell? Well, the Beckhams weren’t the first to use that name, in fact Andre 3000 from Outkast has a son by that name.
But they don’t stop there. According to a study carried out in America, the following names were also given to several children in 2011 and not by celebrities.
- Moo
- Sundae
- Swayze
- Brilliant
- Tomorrow
- Latina
- Tron
- Papa
- Beautiful
We can’t deny we love an original name, especially one which means a lot to the parents and their families. However, have we started to cross the line between originality and silly or do you think there is no reason to limit what we name our children?
