Avoiding and managing pregnancy brain
Though it is a normal and harmless pregnancy symptom, we know that pregnancy brain is still quite frustrating for all of you expectant mothers. For this reason, we have compiled a few tips to help you avoid pregnancy brain and to manage its symptoms when it strikes.
Avoiding Pregnancy Brain
- Sleep. At least 8-9 hours each night.
- Eat. A well-balanced pregnancy diet.
- Exercise. This will help to combat other pregnancy symptoms that cause pregnancy brain.
- Hydrate. At least 8 glasses of water each day.
Managing Pregnancy Brain
- Keep note. Write everything down: questions for your doctor and/or midwife, to-do lists, phone numbers, addresses…
- Use your phone. Or any other electronic device with a built-in organiser. It’s just a more high-tech way of keeping notes and it’s certainly easier to carry around.
- Sleep more. Get your partner to take some baby-sitting shifts or do some chores so you can get into bed an hour earlier or stay in bed an hour later.
- Do less. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, take a step back from some of your pre-pregnancy activities, people will understand your reasons.
- Don’t worry. There’s no point worrying about pregnancy brain, instead you should embrace it as another wacky part of your 40 week adventure.
- Don’t take herbal remedies. These can be harmful to prenatal development, so if you want to take anything get advice from your doctor first.
